132kv Oil filled Cable Overlay - Ferrybridge - Osbaldwick, Nr Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire

Northern powergrid (NPg) have decided to overlay the existing 132kv Cct’s with modern day XLPE as the existing cables were prone to leaks and reached the end of their design life.

Wootton & Wootton were contracted to install the intermediate straight joints, sealing ends & decommission the existing oil filled cables upon completion of the energisation of the new Cct's.

Scope of Works.

Jointing & associated works

• To install 45 x 132kv Prysmian 1c 132Kv XLPE 400mm Cu CWS/Pb   straight joints
• To install 9 x 132kv Tyco 1c 132Kv XLPE 400mm Cu CWS/Pb   straight joints
• Successfully DC sheath test cable upon completion.
• To clean, re-tin copper work and buss bars & install new buss bar clamps.
• To disconnect & reconnect 3 x 4m pieces of 50mm Cu buss bar.
• Modify existing sealing end structures to accept the new CSE's.
• Successfully DC sheath test cable upon completion.
• To supply standby supervision for civil and scaffolding works
• Assist with successfully AC power frequency 132KV pressure tests upon completion.

Decommissioning works

• Removal of 3 x existing 132kV sealing ends.
• Removal of 3 x 300l plinth mounted oil tanks.
• Removal of gauges & all ancillary equipment.
• The permanent capping of the existing O/F cables using plumbed brass caps.
• The de-oiling of 7,600m of O/F cables
• The disposal of of all waste oil in accordance to EA legislation

Summary

Despite a very tight outage programme with a lot to do in a short space of time our teams exceeded expectations and completed works on schedule and on budget.
